The 2002 was an excellent vintage in Champagne producing wines of great personality & splendor, supported by a natural freshness and structure, it is a style of vintage which possibly suits Dom Pérignon more than any other prestige cuvée in Champagne. Dom Pérignon is celebrated for producing wines with a great overall fruit content, allowing the wine to be sampled and enjoyed young whilst always having great intensity of flavour; guaranteeing its capacity to age into a wine of layered intricacy and texture. This will absolutely be the case for the stunning 2002.
On the nose: “first hints of fresh almond and harvest aromas immediately open up into preserved lemon and dried fruits, the whole rounded off by darker smoky and toasted qualities.” On the Palate: “creamy, energetic and warm in the mouth, focusing on the fruit…holds it note perfectly”.
For Dom Perignon it all began in earnest in early 1668, when the intelligent and energetic youthful monk Dom Pierre Perignon was unanimously selected `cellar master` of the Benedictine Abbey of Hautvillers, France – an extremely privileged position at the time. Paying reverence to the divine and holy creator, he made it his sole objective to create the 'best wine in the world' worthy of god himself.
Dom Pérignon pursues three centuries later the work of the man who is considered the creator of Champagne. Released only in vintage form – majority of the grapes from the same year - Dom Pérignon is blended to reach a perfect balance of black and white grapes. Only the very finest and best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes are delicately selected from any of the prestigious 17 Grand Crus and all Premiers Crus of Champagne, including the renowned and revered Hautvillers.
All Dom Perignon Champagne vintage / grapes are aged for absolute a minimum of 7 fully years, sometimes even decades – so that it can achieve its unique and impressive style; vibrant, tactile and complex.
